THE STORY
The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 is one of the most sought after tool watches ever made. Through the 5513's long run from 1962 to 1989, Rolex used several Maxi dial variants with oversized lume plots, and collectors number them Mk I to Mk VI. The Mk III is a favorite of the bunch, with the lume plots seemingly touching the 5-second markers, giving it its "lollipop" nickname.
Ours is from 1978, with the caliber 1520 ticking inside and its original Oyster bracelet. The plots have aged to a warm, creamy tone that matches the hands. The original insert looks minty. It comes with a box, appraisal papers from 2008 and was last serviced (full overhaul) in 2024.
